How We Screen Local Pros
Not a directory. Not a review aggregator. A curated, living network of the only contractors in WNC who've earned the right to work in a member's home — verified in person, tracked over time, removed without hesitation.
I don't get referral fees from contractors. My loyalty is to you — which means I'll tell you when someone on the list isn't right for your job, and I'll say so plainly.
Daniel — Founder28792 Concierge, Hendersonville NC
The Western North Carolina trades market is tight. Good contractors are booked out; unreliable ones are easy to find. Without a trusted network, homeowners — especially retirees new to the region — are left gambling with Google Reviews.
The Golden List exists because I did the legwork. I've met these contractors, watched them work, and talked to the homeowners who hired them. Every name on the list has been evaluated in person.
A place on the list is not permanent. Anyone who ghosts a client, produces shoddy work, or gets difficult about a legitimate complaint gets removed. The list stays trustworthy because it costs something to stay on it.
The Four-Point Screen
Every contractor is verified through the NC Licensing Board before they touch a member's home. We confirm active general liability and workers' comp coverage annually — not once at intake. Lapsed coverage means immediate removal from the list.
New contractors are evaluated on a real job before joining the list. I review their quote process, communication, punctuality, and finished work quality. If they can't perform well when they know they're being watched, they're not on the list.
Every job gets logged. Show-up rates, response times, invoice accuracy, and client satisfaction are tracked across every member engagement. The list is a living document — performance below standard triggers a review and potential removal.
Before any contractor joins the list, I speak directly with three to five previous clients — not star ratings, real conversations. I ask specifically how they handled problems, schedule conflicts, and disputed invoices. Those answers matter more than the positive reviews.
Why This Model Is Different
Angie's List, HomeAdvisor, and most concierge services make money when you hire. That creates an incentive to send you to whoever pays them most. I make money from your membership — not your contractor choices. My recommendation is honest because it has to be.
You don't need someone standing on your property for eight hours. You need someone who reads the fine print, flags the inflated line items, and knows which contractor to call at 7am on a Saturday. That's what membership buys — informed advocacy, not a babysitter.
When I hit 50 members, the list closes. That's not a marketing line — it's an operational constraint. Above 50 households I can't actually pick up when you call and know your home's history off the top of my head. The cap protects the quality of the service.
